The TON blockchain, tied to Telegram, is preparing for several high-profile airdrops this month, raising technical concerns within the community.

Airdrops are a popular method in the crypto space to attract users and investors. This system is usually used to reward early adopters and encourage new participants.

Upcoming TON Ecosystem Airdrops

  • The airdrop series begins on September 12 with Lost Dogs. This project blends an NFT collection with a mini-app linked to the Notcoin ecosystem, offering daily challenges through collectible cards. However, the team has yet to provide specific details about the airdrop.
  • On September 20, Catizen will airdrop its CATI token to early adopters. Since its launch six months ago, Catizen has drawn 34 million players, with over two million active on-chain and 800,000 paying users. Its average revenue per paying user is $33. The CATI token will be listed on several major exchanges, including OKX and KuCoin.
  • Hamster Kombat, a viral Telegram-based clicker game, will follow on September 26. The game allows players to earn rewards by completing tasks, and it has recently surpassed 300 million users. Notably, Hamster Foundation, the firm behind the game, has been teasing the planned airdrop as the largest in history.

These blockchain games demonstrate Telegram’s growing role as a platform for decentralized apps and community-driven token distribution.

Technical Challenges Ahead?

Despite the excitement, the TON blockchain faces possible challenges. Community members worry that the influx of new users due to the upcoming airdrops could strain the network. Similar issues arose during the DOGS airdrop, which disrupted operations.

Last month, DOGS airdropped tokens to 17 million users, resulting in record-breaking network activity. The event led to 1.1 million daily active addresses and 14.4 million single-day transactions. DOGS is now held in 4.5 million unique wallets, surpassing most tokens in terms of unique holders.

Additionally, the Dogs Mini App attracted over 53 million users, of whom 42.2 million were eligible for the token drop. TON Community described it as the “largest meme TGE in cryptocurrency history.”

Meanwhile, the community anticipates that the upcoming airdrops of Hamster Kombat and Catizen could surpass that of DOGS because of the high level of anticipation surrounding these games.

Due to this, community members note that the airdrops risk causing network congestion, delayed transactions, and technical issues. Nevertheless, the TON Foundation and its community remain dedicated to addressing these concerns by improving the network’s scalability as they push toward broader adoption.
