The Big Recap

This has been another fantastically exciting week for crypto. Ethereum has hit a new all time high and entered price discovery. Sadly this also means that Ethereum has become virtually unusable for all but the wealthiest users. A swap on Uniswap can easily cost $50 right now. This is insane. there is a VERY BIG opportunity for other blockchains right now. Layer 2 on Ethereum is relevant but not being adopted quickly enough, and ETH 2.0 is a year away. I am personally taking an increasing interest in Cosmos and Cosmos tendermint based coins, in addition to my Polka Dot obsession. Will try to bring you some more info on these coins in the near future. What is amazing though is that in spite of the painful fees Uniswap still did 30 billion in volume in January. Just imagine what it will do when the fee issue gets resolved.

This week we also got a nice little pump and dump from Elon Musk. the market went wild over him simply putting #bitcoin is his bio. Markets are funny. But he later clarified that he’s a supporter of bitcoin and thinks it will get ‘broad acceptance’ in finance. Big words from the world’s richest man.

Obviously all of the crazy happened with Gamestop and Robinhood. I think a lot has already been said on the topic so I won’t bore you here with the details again. But I do think this will be a big bullish catalyst for the growth of defi. A lot of users came into crypto in the wake of this event. Kraken, Binance, and Coinbase were all flooded with new users. Also Dogecoin, XRP, and others had massive scale pump and dumps run on them by WallStreetBets reddit group, and by accounts impersonating them on Twitter. It was madness haha.

I also wanted to share this infographic from the team over at ICO Analytics. It shows some very interesting data regarding returns by sector in crypto over the last month. You can easily see what is and is not hot. Privacy coins are and centralized exchange coins are not…
