Portfolio Updates

I bought a little bit of BTC this week at $27,100. Just stacking some sats. Although, I think once we cross over 30k that I will stop buying BTC and focus more on altcoins.

I claimed my Trader Joe staking rewards which are paid out in USDC. I took those rewards and bought more JOE which I then staked to earn more rewards. I continue to be impressed by Trader Joe and what they are delivering. While I don’t want to put any new money into JOE right now, I will continue to put the staking rewards back in while it trades under $1. Joe is currently about 4% of my total portfolio which feels big for an altcoin like this, but I will continue to hold this for now and will not be taking any profits until later.

I claimed my Arbitrum. I didn’t see the rush to claim it last week. I have added it to my portfolio. While I currently have a buy order in at $0.75, I have been thinking more about this. Right now we are seeing some big funds and market makers buying ARB at the current price levels. Wintermute bought 33 million ARB tokens. Amber Group bought 8.5 million, Falcon Network 1.7 million, and multiple anon whales have bought 7 figures of ARB. This accumulation by big players is keeping the price held up so far. I am still more interested in ARB at lower prices, but I did add a smaller buy order for ARB at $1.

Narratives

In crypto, narratives are what move markets in many cases. Think about what we have seen in the last few months.

  • Real yield was all the rage, and still is, as coins like GMX started putting real money in the hands of token holders.
  • BONK brought Solana back to life post-FTX.
  • Liquid Staking Coins started pumping as it became clear that the Ethereum upgrade was coming soon.
  • AI coins pumped on the ChatGPT hype.
  • Aptos had its moment in the sun.
  • Layer two coins like Optimism caught on as well.
  • Airdrop mania swept crypto land as ARB made a bunch of people rich.

Some narratives are short and then die off never to return. But, many are news and hype cycle driven and will have big run-ups and then cool downs as the market chases the next shiny thing.

Here are some areas I am watching:

  • As the AI narrative really starts to take off I expect we will continue to see the hype around AI crypto coins.
  • zkSync, just like we saw a multi-month Arbitrum season, we could see a big amount of action on these early movers in the zkSync space. In fact with all of these new networks launching there will likely be a lot of opportunities for the diligent ape.
  • New layer ones are coming. I know that layer twos are all the talk right now, but coins like SUI and Celestia are bringing out their layer ones this year.
  • Real-world assets is a narrative that comes and goes in…
