SHIBA INU is a meme coin, named after the Shiba Inu dog. SHIBA INU was launched in August of 2020 by an anonymous creator known only by the pseudonym, “Ryoshi”. SHIBA INU was created in the wake of the meme coin phenomenon brought on by the popularity of Dogecoin.

Technically, SHIBA INU is an ERC-20 token. So, the coin is used only on the Ethereum blockchain, a proof of stake protocol. Thus, SHIBA INU relies on the Ethereum network for its security and efficiency.

Initially, 1 quadrillion SHIB tokens were minted. Ryoshi gave 50% of these (500 trillion) to Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum.
